Monitoring and facility operation

What is Hotel Automation? Room, Energy and Integration

Hotel automation; It involves monitoring or managing specific functions in rooms or common areas through sensors, controllers and software. Not every project contains the same features. Comfort, operation monitoring, energy and water data can be handled separately or linked according to need.

Difference between room control and facility monitoring

While room control manages the entrances and exits of a specific area, facility monitoring can make data visible for multiple areas. Just because an interface displays room status does not mean that it can give commands to the equipment in that room. Which values to read at startup and which functions to control should be listed separately. Authorized users and manual usage expectations are also part of the scope.

Why is integration not just connectivity?

It is examined what information the existing equipment provides, whether it accepts commands, and how the data interface works. Even if the hardware is on the same network, they may not be directly compatible with each other. In an example project, room status, meter data and maintenance alerts may come from different systems. For each data, the source, update frequency and responsible system must be defined.

How should you interpret energy and water data?

Total consumption should be examined together with room occupancy, activity duration and areas served. Indicators such as consumption per guest-night support comparison when the period and scope are consistent. A change in data alone is not evidence of savings or problems. First, changes in the business and measurement records should be checked. Separate measurement units are used for energy and water management.

Project preparation and delivery to operation

The number of rooms, available devices, desired functions, network infrastructure and expectations of the maintenance team should be prepared. User authorizations, disconnection behavior, alarm responsibles and reports can be defined in the acceptance list. The personal data needed should be minimized; Access and storage rules should be determined. The names and scopes of integrations should be clearly written in the proposal.

Technical questions and answers

Is hotel automation only for large hotels?

Scope can start from a small pilot area. Suitability depends on the needs and existing infrastructure of the property rather than the number of rooms.

Does existing equipment have to be replaced?

Not always. The interfaces and functions of the devices are examined and the parts that can be used and replaced are determined.

Does automation provide a certain percentage of savings?

An overall percentage cannot be guaranteed. The result depends on usage habits, scope and operational changes implemented.

Can a single system connect to all hotel software?

Such compatibility should not be assumed. The data interface, access and testing scope of each integration should be further validated.
