What is a Presence Sensor? PIR and mmWave Difference
The presence sensor transmits the presence of people in an area to the control system. Motion detection is not the same as occupancy: a seated or sleeping guest may not move enough. Sensor technology, field of view and control logic are selected together.

In what situation is PIR appropriate?
PIR detects infrared changes in the field of view. It can be used in areas where movement is evident, such as corridors; It is not assumed that it will always detect stationary people. Furniture, mounting angle and environmental conditions affect coverage. Using the no perception information directly as a room empty decision may lead to comfort problems.
Limits of mmWave sensing
mmWave radar can be sensitive to small movements with the appropriate hardware and algorithm. However, not every product detects the sleeping person in every position. Fan, curtain, adjacent area or reflections may cause false detection. Detection zones, sensitivity and time thresholds should be tested in the actual room layout; The product data sheet is not a substitute for field verification.
Occupancy logic with door information
Door opening, card status and sensor data can be combined in a state machine. Entering the room, staying inside, going out for a short time and cleaning are separate scenarios. Decision delay is balanced with guest comfort. While pilot room testing is carried out in Antalya hotels, a scope can be prepared for projects across Türkiye based on room plans and sensor placement.
Technical questions and answers
Does PIR detect sleeping person?
It is not expected to constantly perceive the motionless person; alone may not be sufficient to make an occupancy decision.
Is it a mmWave camera?
No. Uses radar-based detection; Does not produce camera images.
Does the sensor detect behind the wall?
Depending on the material and product, unwanted detection may occur; regions are limited in field testing.
Is one sensor enough for a room?
It is determined by the room shape, furniture, bathroom and detection area.
