Fetrion handles IoT gateway and data collection integrations that carry the data of field devices to central monitoring applications according to project needs. The device list, data points, communication interfaces and upper system connection for meters, sensors and control devices are planned together. The protocols and hardware features to be supported are validated with the selected device and project scope.
01
Evaluate field data in a single integration layer
Retrieving data from distributed devices is not just about establishing a physical connection. Register address, data type, scaling, measurement unit and device states must be matched correctly. The data acquisition layer aims to create a readable and traceable data stream for energy and water monitoring or plumbing automation.
02
Modbus and RS485 do not mean the same thing
RS485 is the electrical communication interface; Modbus is the protocol that defines message and data access rules. Modbus RTU on appropriate serial link; Modbus TCP is evaluated on the IP network. Baud rate, parity, device address, register map, line topology and termination are verified during the project.
03
Integration of wireless measuring points with LoRaWAN
In the LoRaWAN architecture, end devices, gateway and network server perform different tasks. The gateway carries radio packets to the server; The interpretation of application data depends on the device profile and payload format. Regional radio parameters, device compatibility, coverage and data transmission frequency are evaluated in the project. Not every RS485 device is assumed to be directly LoRaWAN compatible.
04
Upper system connection and field conditions
MQTT/HTTPS transfer, cloud or local server preference and access policy are determined within the scope of integration. Supply, insulation needs, cabinet conditions and service access influence hardware selection. You can start project evaluation by sharing the current device model, registration document, number of points and target application.
Reliable data flow and acceptance criteria
Interrupt, buffer record and timestamp
Local storage requirement, recording capacity, retransmission and double recording prevention approach are designed according to the risk of data loss. The measurement time and the time to reach the server can be kept separate. Communication loss and stale data warning should be separated from normal measurement.
Access security and product authentication
Device identity, authentication, encrypted upper system connection and update policy are defined within the scope of the project. EMC, electrical safety and applicable CE requirements are evaluated according to the final equipment and the field of use. Certification or certified LoRaWAN compliance is not assumed without the relevant device documentation.
Technical questions and answers
Does every device with RS485 connection support Modbus?
No. RS485 defines the physical interface. The device may use a different protocol. For integration, the supported protocol, serial communication settings and data addresses must be verified from the technical documentation.
What is the difference between LoRaWAN gateway and Modbus gateway?
LoRaWAN gateway forwards wireless end device packets to the network server. Modbus gateway can map Modbus data to different connection or application layers. Interoperability requires network server, payload resolution, and data replication architecture.
Can the IoT gateway work when there is no internet?
Local data collection and storage behavior depends on hardware and software. Buffer capacity, local functions, and retransmission requirements must be defined upon disconnection. The parent system being offline does not mean the same behavior on every device.
