What is PCB Design and Embedded Software? Process
PCB is a printed circuit board on which electronic components are placed and connected via conductive paths. Embedded software, on the other hand, executes certain functions on hardware such as microcontrollers. For a working electronic product, the card, software, power supply and usage conditions are designed together.

Difference between schematic and PCB layout
A schematic describes components and electrical connections with symbols. The PCB layout defines the physical locations of components on the board, their connection paths, and board boundaries. The same schematic can be applied with different layouts; The mechanical fit and manufacturability of these applications may not be the same. Maintaining which version design files belong to reduces confusion in subsequent changes.
How does embedded software integrate with hardware?
Software; It can read inputs, manage outputs and carry out communication functions. However, the necessary interfaces must be present in the hardware and the software must be compatible with the components used. Adding a sensor doesn't just mean freeing up space on the screen. Connectivity, driver, data processing and test coverage are evaluated together. Update and error situations should also be included among the project requirements.
What outputs are evaluated in the prototype?
A sample delivery list might include schematic, board files, component list, production deliverables, software version, and test results. The scope and usage rights of the files should be clarified in the contract. In the prototype review, not only the opening of the device but also the operation of the specified functions under the expected conditions are evaluated. Design rule checks are not a substitute for physical and functional testing.
What changes when preparing for production?
Component availability, assembly method, test access, and mechanical tolerances can influence mass production decisions. A manual process in the prototype may not be sustainable in production. Therefore, the required test points and delivery criteria should be discussed at an early stage. The number of layers, processor or connection type of the card should not be selected without seeing the product requirements.
Technical questions and answers
Does the PCB design include embedded software?
It does not cover itself. Hardware and software deliveries, source files and tests should be defined separately within the scope of the project.
Is the working prototype ready for mass production?
Not always. Manufacturability, component supply, test method and documentation are also evaluated.
What is a Gerber file?
It is one of the output formats that carry layer information used in card production. The delivery package may also include other deliverables requested by the manufacturer.
When should the test plan be prepared?
It is useful to start when determining functions and acceptance criteria; test access may affect board and software design.
